Toby
About the Job
Toby, raised in an emergency homeless shelter with his single mother, is a young boy struggling to find his place in a world that overlooks him. He finds pleasure in breaking things, often at the cost of losing friendships. Though shy and mischievous, Toby's emotional depth is rooted in his desire to not only receive attention, but to have a purpose. This is a supporting role. Toby's relationship with our lead, a handyman named Mose, is complex and relies heavily on subtext rather than animated emotion. Toby finds relief in Mose's care, though his fear of rejection causes him to hide his emotional insecurity from the handyman. Toby's desire for breaking things around the facility is fueled by his need for attention--when Toby breaks something, Mose comes to fix it. This character requires emotional restraint as Toby struggles to hide his insecurities from those around him. The role relies on listening skills and the ability to form a natural chemistry with our lead.
